How the day works

Off the ship, into the old town.

  1. Book a day below. You get a confirmation email straight away. I message you on WhatsApp to confirm your ship and all-aboard time.
  2. Take a taxi from the cruise terminal to Torres de Serranos. There's a taxi rank at the terminal, and the ride is short.
  3. We walk. Three hours at your pace, with stops for coffee, horchata or a snack at the market.
  4. Back to the port with plenty of margin. If your ship is late getting in, we shorten the route. Your margin stays.
The usual route
  1. Torres de SerranosA 14th-century city gate. Climb it for the view over the old riverbed.
  2. Plaza de la VirgenOn Thursdays at noon the Water Tribunal still meets here, like it has for over a thousand years.
  3. Cathedral & the Micalet207 steps up the bell tower, and a cup inside that Valencia insists is the Holy Grail.
  4. La Lonja de la SedaThe silk exchange, UNESCO-listed since 1996. Look up at the gargoyles.
  5. Mercado CentralAround 300 stalls under one modernist roof. We eat something here.
  6. Plaza Redonda → horchataTiger-nut milk with fartons. Tastes strange for about two sips.

Questions

Before you book.

Will I make it back to the ship?

That's the one thing we plan first. Tell me your all-aboard time and the walk is timed backwards from it, with plenty of margin for the taxi back to the port. If the ship arrives late, we shorten the route.

How do I get from the ship to the start?

By taxi from the rank at the cruise terminal to Torres de Serranos. It's a short ride, and you pay the driver directly. I'll send you the exact meeting point on WhatsApp.

How do I pay?

Nothing online. You pay at the end of the walk. Museum tickets and food are separate, and only if you want them.

Is it OK for kids or older travellers?

Valencia is flat. We can go slower, sit down more and skip the 207 steps up the Micalet.

Is this an official guided tour?

It's a private walk with a local. We walk the streets together. Inside the Cathedral or the Lonja you use your own ticket and the audio guide, and I'll be waiting at the door.

What if it rains, or my port call is cancelled?

If the ship doesn't dock, there's nothing to pay. Just message me. Rain is rare here. If it does rain, the market and the Lonja are covered.
